Departmental Citation for Distinction in the Major
An award of a certificate and a cash prize to a graduating major with a highly distinguished record in work in the major. This award is part of a campuswide program, but the selection is made annually by the Department. Each May, the Undergraduate Advisers in consultation with the Chair review the records of departmental majors who have graduated or will graduate in the current academic year. They present the records of the top one to three candidates to the faculty as a whole for selection of the single recipient. See also the campus regulations and criteria.

Chair's Book Prize
Award of a book prize, funded by donations to the Chair's Annual Fund appeal, (through 2008) to any graduating major who is continuing classical studies at the graduate level; (from 2010) to a graduating major with a distinguished record who is continuing classical studies at the graduate level. This prize is awarded whenever a qualifying candidate is recommended by the Undergraduate Advisers and approved by the Department.

W. K. Pritchett Prize in Elementary Greek
Named in honor of Professor W. Kendrick Pritchett, a distinguished scholar and a devoted teacher of Greek, upon his retirementof, a prize, at least $500 to the enrolled student who performs best in the first year of Greek (sometimes awarded to co-winners). Awarded annually since 1977 and administered by the Department. Each May the instructors of Greek 2 and 10 meet after final exams to discuss the best students in each class; in consultation with the Department Chair or a delegate of the Chair, one or two winners are selected.

Louis MacKay Prize in Translation of Latin Poetry (1987-2008)
A prize of at least $500 for the best translation into English of a passage of Latin poetry selected by the student. This prize was created with a lump sum to be spent down rather than used as an endowment, and consequently the 2007-2008 competition was the last one.

Established with donations made in honor of Professor John K. Anderson upon his retirement, an award of at least $1500 to support an undergraduate in summer study and travel in classical lands. Preference is given to undergraduate students of Classics and to attendance at summer programs offered by the American School of Classical Studies in Athens and the American Academy in Rome. The term "students of Classics" is meant to include not only declared majors, but also students of Greek, Latin, or Classics who have not (or not yet) declared a major in one of those fields. An announcement of all three travel awards is posted and also circulated each fall and early spring in departmental courses, explaining the application procedure. Deadline is usually around February 15. Awards are made by the Chair on the recommendation of the Undergraduate Advisers.

The Dimitrios Vlahos Travel Award
An award to support summer study in Greece for an undergraduate student enrolled in the Department of Classics in the College of Letters and Science. An endowed fund to support this award was established by Elena Vlahu Scott, who earned a B.A. in Classical Languages at Berkeley in 1996, to honor the memory of her late father, Dimitrios Vlahos. To be awarded starting summer 2014 pending sufficient funds.

Corinne S. Crawford Graduate Research Award
Funded by the Corinne S. Crawford Memorial Graduate Student Support Fund, an endowment created in honor or Corinne Crawford (1980-2007), an outstanding graduate student who died tragically in a traffic accident. Intended to support graduate students in classical studies, with a preference for those pursuing a specialization in Roman studies. The two preferred uses of the award will be for travel to Roman lands for research and study and/or for final dissertation-year support. The recipient is selected by the Chair after consultation with the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Fellowships. First awarded in 2008.
