Donations invited for Charles E. Murgia Latin Prize
May 3, 2013
To honor Charles' memory and support the study of Latin at the undergraduate level, the Department seeks to raise an endowment, the income from which will provide a prize or prizes for achievement in undergraduate Latin courses.
There are already parallel prizes in Latin and Greek at the advanced level (the prose composition prizes named in honor of Richardson and Rosenmeyer respectively), but there has been only the Pritchett Greek Prize for undergraduate achievement. Creating the Charles E. Murgia Latin Prize  will be a fitting way to commemorate Charles' inspiring contributions as a teacher of Latin.
Specific guidelines for the Murgia Latin Prize will be established when fundraising reaches the minimum level required for the creation of a prize endowment ($10,000). All of Charles' colleagues and students and friends are invited to contribute.
